Celebrating 25 Years of Magellan: Meet Pat Garvin

Meet Pat Garvin, Director of Human Resources, a devoted team player and one of Magellan’s longest-serving champions.

Her Magellan story began in March 2000, but her connection with the company stretches even further back. While working as an administrative assistant in the legal department at a previous organization, she met Amanda Dunn, who would later become Magellan’s first employee. When Magellan was founded, Amanda enthusiastically recommended her for the role of receptionist and office clerk. After three interviews, she was hired—and a remarkable journey began.

Starting out in a small home office in Palm Beach, Florida, she quickly became indispensable, juggling clerical tasks alongside payroll and HR responsibilities. Over the years, she wore many hats: accounts receivable, accounts payable, logistics, office management—and of course, Human Resources.

The company relocated its headquarters to Charlotte, NC, in 2007, and she made the move in 2010, continuing her work as HR Manager and supporting an ever-growing team. In 2012, she began focusing exclusively on HR, and by 2018, she had been promoted to Director of Human Resources, officially leading the department she helped build from the ground up.

She’s proud to have played a key role in fostering the people-first culture Magellan is known for today. “Being part of this company’s growth, and knowing I’ve helped shape the employee experience, means the world to me.”

Outside of work, she enjoys time with family and friends, attending concerts and plays, crafting, watching true crime documentaries, and planning family events. And here’s a fun fact: she was captain of her high school girls’ track team!

Her advice for new Magellan employees? “Stay open to learning, don’t be afraid to ask questions, take the initiative, and get to know your teammates. Your contributions matter.”
